The Film Will Be Officially Released On December 16, 2022

Over the years, filming schedules for Avatar 2 have changed multiple times. The film required some exceptional technology to be filmed. The technology needed for Avatar 2 wasn't fully developed, which further slowed filming.

The Film's Budget is Larger Than The First Avatar​​​​

In 2009, the first Avatar film was budgeted at $237 million, and the second had an even higher price tag of $250 million. Filming methods used in the film were unique, so it's unlikely that a lower budget could have been used.

This highly-anticipated film sequel jumps ahead fifteen years in time, showing Jake Sully as a chieftain and Neytiri as a high priestess. Sully and Neytiri are concerned with protecting their clan in the film, but their larger concern is the well-being of their children.

There Are Three More Planned Sequel

Cameron plans to continue the Avatar universe after Avatar 2. An Avatar franchise plan will conclude in 2028 with an untitled Avatar 5. With the new plan, a new film will be released every other year.

The Sequels Were All Written Simultaneously

Surprisingly, all the sequels to Avatar were written simultaneously. He collaborated with a team of talented writers including Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver, and Shane Salerno.

All The Core Stars Are Returning

Fans can expect many of their favorite actors to return in the sequel. Leading lady Zoe Saldana will reprise her role as Neytiri, and Sam Worthington returns as Jake Sully.  Sigourney Weaver's original character died in the first film, but she will lend her acting skills to a new character in Avatar 2.

Several New Stars Have Signed On For Avatar 2 And Beyond

In addition to the returning cast, several new actors have joined the Avatar universe for Avatar 2 and the other sequels. Most notably, Vin Diesel will make his debut in the series as well as Michelle Yeoh and Kate Winslet.

The Majority Of The Film Takes Place Underwater

Cameron's team designed a new underwater motion capture technology for the "Avatar" film franchise. The 900,000-gallon water tank allowed them to generate different kinds of water conditions for certain scenes.

The Actors Needed Special Training For The Film

To help create their mo-cap technology, all the main actors for movie had to train extensively in the art of free-diving. Kate Winslet performed all of her own underwater stunts and trained to hold her breath for a staggering seven and a half minutes.
