Cameron plans to continue the Avatar universe after Avatar 2. An Avatar franchise plan will conclude in 2028 with an untitled Avatar 5. With the new plan, a new film will be released every other year.

Fans can expect many of their favorite actors to return in the sequel. Leading lady Zoe Saldana will reprise her role as Neytiri, and Sam Worthington returns as Jake Sully. Sigourney Weaver's original character died in the first film, but she will lend her acting skills to a new character in Avatar 2.

Cameron's team designed a new underwater motion capture technology for the "Avatar" film franchise. The 900,000-gallon water tank allowed them to generate different kinds of water conditions for certain scenes.

To help create their mo-cap technology, all the main actors for movie had to train extensively in the art of free-diving. Kate Winslet performed all of her own underwater stunts and trained to hold her breath for a staggering seven and a half minutes.
